Carbondale community rallies behind sisters battling rare diagnosis

CARBONDALE, Kan. (WIBW) – 13-year-old Josie and 7-year-old Lenna were recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a rare and serious condition where the body stops producing enough blood cells.

The only successful treatment is a bone marrow transplant.

“They are on the registry right now trying to find a match, but we haven’t had anything come through just yet, so they are still considered searching patients,” said Virginia Merritt, the aunt of the two sisters…
