1 — Best of the…Rest? Quick—who’s the best quarterback Notre Dame’s defense has faced to date? And in that vein, the best passing game as well?

  • Conner Weigman and A&M? Hardly as advertised
  • Ethan Hampton at NIU? Maybe for one magical pass that found a way (and changed the course of Notre Dame’s season)
  • Hudson Card down in West Lafayette? Apparently not
  • Brett Gabbert the aged wonder from Oxford? Fine, but highly manageable from an opposing point of view

Enter Louisville’s (#9) Tyler Shough, the 6’5″ 225-pound 25-year-old sixth-year senior who arrived in Derby City via Lubbock who has amassed more than 5,400 passing yards over his seasons with Texas Tech and now the Cardinals.

Shough has played three games for head coach Jeff Brohm with eight touchdowns and no interceptions on his docket.

Perhaps more important? Shough has been sacked just once this season—and that’s a key for the Irish defense, it’s blitzing ‘backers, and ideally linemen Boubacar Traore (#5) and Howard Cross (#56): bother Shough enough to force interception No. 1 and perhaps sacks 2-3-4…by game’s end…
