Incarnate Word soars in second half, NAU loses 38-14

The Lumberjacks kept up with the No. 15-ranked University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals during the first half of the Sept. 21 game in San Antonio, Texas. The second half, however, was a different story. The Cardinals rushed for 166 yards and held the Lumberjacks to zero points to win 38-14. 

NAU came out throwing the ball as sophomore quarterback Ty Pennington hit redshirt junior wide receiver Kolbe Katsis for 6 yards. NAU’s run game, which was effective against Utah Tech University in its previous match, got going early, as redshirt junior running back Darvon Hubbard and Pennington rushed for a combined 16 yards and a first down.

The drive was cut short when Pennington got hit from behind and fumbled the ball, allowing the Cardinals to recover it at their own 45-yard line. The Lumberjacks have five fumbles this season, four of them coming in this game…
