In a bizarre incident that transformed a section of California freeway into an impromptu landing strip, a small plane originating from Mesa, Arizona, was forced to make an emergency touchdown on State Route 76 in Oceanside, California. The strange event quickly escalated from a traffic anomaly into a drug bust when law enforcement discovered narcotics inside the aircraft.

According to the FOX10 Phoenix, the plane, manned by Gabriel Breit, 21, and Troy Smith, 36, both residents of Oceanside, took flight from Falcon Field in Mesa at 11:09 p.m. on Sept. 25 and landed at 1:37 a.m. on Sept. 26. Upon landing, authorities located a “large quantity of narcotics” with the two occupants, who were subsequently arrested.
