The Gamecocks football team enjoyed the first of two open weeks on the schedule this weekend.

Shane Beamer practiced his team Monday through Wednesday then gave them the rest of the week off. They are to return to the practice field Sunday evening to begin preparations for Ole Miss. The Rebels will visit Williams-Brice Stadium this Saturday afternoon. They suffered their first loss of the season Saturday at home to Kentucky, a team the Gamecocks beat in Lexington in week two. The men’s soccer team earned their first Sun Belt Conference win of the season Saturday with a 2-1 victory at Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers led in the match 21-to-10 in shots and 8-to-2 in shots on goals, while Carolina led in corner kicks 5-4. Filip Versterre tied a season-high with six saves for the Gamecocks. The game was tied 1-1 as it hit the 85th minute. Ethan Ballek stole the ball away near the midfield, got past a pair of defenders, and scored from just inside the 18-yard box.
