Island restoration completed on Illinois River

The St. Louis District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is celebrating the completion of several Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program projects on the Illinois River.

During September, dedication ceremonies were held for Alton Pool Islands, Twin Islands, and Moore’s Towhead.

The projects are designed to reduce erosion and enhance geomorphic diversity. They also create or improve deep water fish habitat while also improving native fish habitat…
