To promote community safety and reduce the number of unwanted firearms in the area, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Oceanside Police Department, and the City of Vista, hosted a Gun Safety Event over the weekend. Participants who arrived on Saturday at the North County Regional Center in Vista had the opportunity to exchange their unwanted firearms for gift cards, as reported on the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office website.
During the event that was conducted this Saturday, individuals were given $100 gift cards for turning in handguns, rifles, and shotguns and $200 for assault weapons and ghost guns. In a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, it was announced that a total of 152 firearms were collected from the public.
