One week since Birmingham mass shooting, BPD ‘working hard’ to make arrests

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Four people are dead, 17 people are injured, 21 families are forever changed and still no one is in custody for the Five Points South mass shooting.

“It’s been one week since this horrible incident took place in our city,” said Officer Truman Fitzgerald with the Birmingham Police Department. “We want our community members to know that we are working hard each and every day to fulfil our promise of bringing these victimizers to justice.”

The officer said he had never witnessed a crime quite like this one, and he reiterated BPD’s commitment to making arrests.

“Investigations of this magnitude, they take time,” Fitzgerald said. “They often involve a lot of evidence, a lot of testing, so we don’t want anyone to be discouraged as the days and or weeks go by, we want you to know that the Birmingham Police Department will forever fight for justice for these victims.”…
