PARMA, Ohio — Each year throughout the Parma City Schools, fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, foster fathers, coaches, teachers, friends and other mentors mark the day by taking the children to school.

The annual fathers/mentors walk, which took place on Sept. 19, is a countywide initiative that stresses the important role that fathers, father figures and other male role models have in the life of students.

“We had over 144 dads, uncles, grandpas and role models walk their child to school,” Dentzler Elementary Principal Renee Dzurnak said. “They enjoyed refreshments, free books and photo opportunities.

“This also gave the men an opportunity to socialize and bond with other men and come together in the best interest of their children.”
