WETUMPKA — The 22nd annual Coosa River Challenge, hosted by Coosa River Adventures and the River Region Mountain Biking Alliance, will be held on Saturday along the Coosa River.
The three- to six-hour adventure race, the longest in the state, starts on the Swayback Bridge Trail near U.S. Highway 231 north of Wetumpka and winds its way through the woods down to the Coosa River below Jordan Dam.
Teams of two and solo racers will run, bike, trek and kayak to the finish line. Along the way they will be challenged by a rappel, a bit of swimming, a jump from the rocks and a few other surprises. Individuals and teams normally finish in four hours, with the majority of racers off the course in six hours.
