JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Citing the widespread damage from Hurricane Helene, the Georgia High School Association on Tuesday pushed back the start of the football playoffs by a week.
The final week of the regular season was moved from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8 with the announcement. That Nov. 8 date now becomes the final Friday of the regular season and can be used as a makeup date for schools that were affected by Helene. The opening round of the playoffs is now scheduled for Nov. 15-16 to accommodate the storm changes. Schools who were able to squeeze in their games ahead of Helene will now have a bye on Nov. 8.
