Steve Belichick didn’t have a dog in the fight when watching the 2024 National Championship game between Washington and Michigan; he had players from both schools in his charge during his time in New England. Back then, he was just hoping for a good game.
But now that he is Washington’s defensive coordinator, this weekend’s Michigan-Washington game has captured his full attention. And the statistics tell us that the Wolverines have thrown the ball slightly more than a third of the time compared to their run game. In fact, Michigan has thrown more interceptions so far in 2024 (7) than passing touchdowns (5).
Don’t tell that to Belichick, though. His job? As he tells it, it’s his responsibility to get the Washington defensive players ready for everything they’ve seen on tape so far from their opponents, and then it’s up to Michigan to decide what they want to run from there…
