Lansing and Jackson report a reduction in gun violence

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Despite the shootings we hear of more often, numbers from newly released crime data show both Lansing and Jackson’s gun violence rates have decreased. This is largely due to crime reduction organizations, the community and technology.

Lansing and Jackson are two major cities priding themselves on reducing gun crimes. “We haven’t seen a huge reduction with our non-fatal shootings, we have seen that 50% decrease in our homicides,” said Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane.

“We talk about the reduction of shooting incidents that is down 53% since 2020 and then when we talk about the amount of people who are shot in a shooting incident that is down from 68% compared to 2021,” said City of Jackson Spokesperson Aaron Dimick…
