‘No calls, no letters’ order nixed from killer’s sentence

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A convicted killer barred from having “any future contact with the outside world” will get a modified sentence because the unusual “no contact” condition was improper, an appeals court ruled.

Andrew Lafey shot his girlfriend twice with a rifle and recorded himself kicking her for almost 11 minutes. The circumstances of the 2021 Barry County murder were called “horrific.”

He was given life in prison for the murder and 25-80 years for torture.

While the mandatory life sentence remains intact, the appeals court said the additional condition that Lafey “should not have any contact with anyone outside the prison until the day he dies” was over the top…
