LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Michigan’s growing deer population is causing problems for the state’s wildlife, and drivers on the roads. One local township is trying to do something about it.
Tuesday, Meridian Township kicked off the archery portion of its Deer Management Program.
According to Michigan Traffic Crash Facts car accidents involving deer jumped from 52,218 in 2021 to 58,806 in 2023. The Land Stewardship Coordinator for Meridian Township, Emma Campbell said along with accidents, the higher deer population has also hurt the ecosystem.
