NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans native rapper McKinley “Mac” Phipps and his wife Angelique won an Emmy Award last week for their short film, “Rap Trap: Hip Hop on Trial.” It won an Emmy for Outstanding Arts, Culture and Entertainment Coverage.
The film focuses on how hip-hop lyrics are being used against rappers in court. It further sheds light on Phipps’ initiative, the RAP Act, which became law in 2023 in Louisiana.
