North Carolina musician touring in New Mexico uncertain about return home in wake of Hurricane Helene

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Communities on the East Coast are still trying to pick up the pieces in the wake of Hurricane Helene. That includes one musician who’s from New Mexico and now lives in North Carolina.  She’s now stuck here in New Mexico, waiting for water and power to be restored to her small town.

Traveling is just part of the gig, and for Tina Collins, it brought her back to New Mexico to perform in Santa Fe on Wednesday. “I did live in Taos for about four years back in the day, that’s where I started my music project,” said Collins, an indie folk music performer also known by her stage name: Tina and Her Pony.

What was supposed to be a short stop along her tour has turned into a bit of an extended stay.

Collins lives in Marshall, North Carolina, which has been devastated by Hurricane Helene. “The day that I planned on flying out west for my tour, which was about a week ago, the river in my little town where I live, which is called Marshall, North Carolina, started rising pretty rapidly due to hurricane Helen,” she explained…
