A Davenport woman is in the Scott County Jail on 11 counts related to stealing items from Hy-Vee stores in the Quad Cities.
According to the criminal complaint, Anastasia Benson, 33 of Davenport, is accused of scanning powdered drink packets instead of the actual items she removed from shelves, or “skip scanning” at several Hy-Vees in Davenport between February 1 and September 13 of this year.
- On February 1 , Benson allegedly removed about $51.84 in merchandise while only scanning and paying for $9 at the Hy-Vee on W. Locust Street.
- On March 1, Benson removed merchandise from the W. Locust store and “walked past the last point of sale with the items with the intent to deprive the store.” Also on March 1, she allegedly removed about $84.49 worth of merchandise from the Hy-Vee on W. Kimberly Road but only scanned and paid for $11 in products.
- On March 3 , Benson allegedly removed about $18.74 in merchandise from the W. Locust Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $5.
- On March 4, court documents say Benson removed about $13.69 in merchandise from the same store while scanning and paying for $3.
- On March 8 , Benson allegedly removed about $28.24 in merchandise from the W. Locust Street store while scanning and paying for $3.
- On March 19, Benson removed about $32.75 in merchandise from the Hy-Vee on W. Kimberly Road while scanning and paying for $8.
- On March 24, Benson removed $72.08 in store merchandise from the W. Locust Street location while scanning and paying for $14.
- On April 6, Benson allegedly removed about $102.18 in merchandise from the W. Locust Street store while scanning and paying $15.
- On April 11 , the criminal complaint says Benson removed about $22.57 in merchandise from the same store while scanning and paying $2.
- On May 6, Benson was observed “skip scanning” at the Hy-Vee on W. Locust Street and was told not to return to the store. A warrant for 4 th degree theft was requested.
- On July 23, Benson allegedly removed about $50 in products from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $2.
- On July 24, Benson removed about $10 in merchandise from the Hy-Vee on W. Kimberly Road while scanning and paying $6.
- On August 9 , Benson allegedly removed about $28 in products from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $2.
- On August 13, Benson is accused of removing about $20 in merchandise from the W. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $2.
- On August 14 , Benson removed merchandise worth about $30 from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $2.
- On August 16 , Benson allegedly removed about $30 in products from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $2.
- On August 19, Benson removed $25 in merchandise from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $6.
- On August 20, Benson allegedly removed about $20 in merchandise from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $15.
- On August 21 , Benson is accused of removing about $10 in merchandise from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $5.
- On September 4 , Benson allegedly removed about $75 in products from the W. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $7.
- On September 13, Benson allegedly removed about $30 in merchandise from the E. Kimberly Road Hy-Vee while scanning and paying $8.
In total, Benson is alleged to have removed about $754.28 in merchandise from the Hy-Vee stores while paying $127. The complaint says that in all these instances, Benson “walked past the last point of sale with the items with the intent to deprive the store.”
Benson has been charged with 11 counts of fifth-degree theft, all misdemeanors, and one count of ongoing criminal activity, a felony. She is being held in the Scott County Jail on a total cash-only bond of $29,600…
