Historic federal funding going to California cities to reduce traffic-related deaths

DAVIS, Calif. — With a significant increase in the number of pedestrian and bicycle-related deaths, the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) recently made a historic $149 million investment.

The money has been distributed to agencies across the state through 497 grants that will focus on the expansion of overall road safety and enforcement programs.

California’s pedestrian deaths nearly doubled from 599 in 2010 to 1,158 in 2022, and bicyclist deaths went from 99 deaths in 2010 to 177 in 2022…
