York school neighbors lawyer up against township and school district over ‘crazy’ driveway plan

YORK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — They didn’t exactly take the law into their own hands.

But neighbors shocked by what they called a “crazy” plan to connect narrow, dead-end Merrin Road to the back of York Township Elementary school — and turn the road into a school drop-off and pick-up route — have hired a lawyer to help them try to defeat the plan.

“We had already contacted some leaders in our community. Some indicated there is nothing they can do, and some seemed to indicate through non-action that they wouldn’t do anything,” said Susan Smith, a Merrin Road resident who hired the lawyer. “It was very clear that if we wanted to try to enforce any rights that we might have, that we’d have to go through the legal system. And you really do need a good lawyer to do that.”…
