Two Fatal Car Accidents on Louisiana’s Northshore Claim Drivers’ Lives as Seatbelt Use is Questioned

The Louisiana State Police have reported two distinct fatal car accidents that took place on the Northshore last Thursday, resulting in the loss of two lives on the region’s highways. The first incident, as reported by WDSU, involved 55-year-old Albert Johnson Jr. of Albany who was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima on LA Highway 1064 near Durbin Road in Tangipahoa Parish. Johnson’s vehicle reportedly veered off the road and collided with a tree around 3:45 p.m. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second fatal crash occurred later in the evening, around 10 p.m. on LA Highway 21 near Cleland Street in Covington. WWL-TV reports that Glenn Wells, 35, of Bogalusa, was involved in a head-on collision with a 2015 GMC Canyon while behind the wheel of a 2006 Nissan Sentra. Like Johnson, Wells was also not wearing a seatbelt at the time of his death.

Both crashes are under investigation by the Louisiana State Police. In accordance with standard procedure, toxicology samples were taken from all drivers for analysis to determine if impairment was a factor in either incident.
