Panthers’ Xavier Woods fined for late hit on Bengals’ Mike Gesicki that wasn’t penalized

Carolina Panthers safety Xavier Woods was fined $11,255 for a late hit on Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki during the third quarter of the Bengals’ NFL Week 4 win last Sunday in Charlotte, the league announced Saturday.

A flag was thrown as Gesicki pleaded with an official, but it was picked up, and Woods was not penalized. The result of the play was a loss of nine yards on Gesicki’s catch from quarterback Joe Burrow.

The Bengals led 28-14 when Gesicki was thrown to the ground on the sideline by Woods. After Cordell Volson’s offensive-holding penalty on the next play and Zack Moss’ 10-yard carry on the following play, the Bengals increased their lead to 17 with a 56-yard field goal by Evan McPherson…
