Randolph-Macon’s defense steps up late to defeat Shenandoah

Behind three interceptions, a key fourth down stop late in the fourth quarter, and two touchdowns on the ground from junior Mitchell Johnson, the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets were able to hold on for a close road victory past Shenandoah on Saturday afternoon.

No. 25 RMC (3-1) had interceptions come from three different players in Brandon Evans, Quentin Mankin and Coleton Payne, and Payne’s interception killed a drive that made it near midfield early in the fourth quarter. 

It led directly to RMC’s drive that’d put the Yellow Jackets ahead for good, with quarterback Dante Casciola hitting sophomore Basit Qadri for a 38-yard reception down to the 2-yard-line, followed by Mitchell’s second touchdown of the night for a 22-21 lead with just over six minutes left in the game.
