“He dared me to shoot and beat them” – Horace Grant says stubborn Phil Jackson cost the Bulls their 1995 Playoff series vs. the Magic

The Orlando Magic own the distinction of being the only team to beat the Chicago Bulls in a playoff series during the Bulls’ dynasty run. This happened during the 1995 Playoffs, where the Magic ousted Michael Jordan and the Bulls 4-2 in their best-of-seven second-round showdown.

Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway led Orlando’s charge, but former Chicago Bull Horace Grant was the difference maker in the series. During an interview with The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Grant explained how Bulls head coach Phil Jackson motivated him to put up big scoring numbers.

“He dared me to shoot and beat them with 15,17 footers because I didn’t get enough shots when I was in Chicago playing with MJ and Pip,” said Grant.
