Tragedy Strikes Jacksonville as Woman and Child Perish in Wrong-Way Collision on I-95 with 3 More Children Seriously Injured

An early yesterday morning tragedy occurred on Interstate 95 near Pecan Park Road when a 25-year-old woman and a 3-year-old girl were killed in a head-on, wrong-way collision. According to News4Jax, three other children in the SUV—a 5-year-old girl, a 2-year-old girl, and a 1-year-old boy—sustained serious injuries and were also from Jacksonville. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) indicated that none of the SUV’s passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The accident occurred approximately at 2:20 a.m. when the SUV was reported to have been traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-95. The FHP stated that the SUV collided with a northbound sedan driven by a 42-year-old Jacksonville man who suffered serious injuries, as First Coast News reported. In an effort to never compromise emergency response, all northbound lanes on the interstate were closed for several hours as a result.

Following the incident, northbound traffic was rerouted via Pecan Park Road, and lanes remained closed until reopening around 8:35 a.m. The FHP has yet to release the identities of those involved, but confirmed that next of kin have been notified, as shared by Action News Jax…
