Charity event | Snapshot

The Discovery Shoppe held its annual Fall Charity Coffee and general meeting on Oct. 1 at the Butte Creek Country Club. Shoppe volunteers were able to hear fifteen charity presentations and will vote by ballot to approve charities that will receive funding from the Discovery Shoppe League. It is a rewarding time of year when volunteers see their mission accomplished. One of the charity presenters was Erin Kennedy of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley requesting support for the remodel of their Phoenix Club outdoor spaces. Active members of The Discovery Shoppe League nominate non-profit charitable organizations for grants. The applicants present their projects to the members at this annual Fall coffee. Charities requesting funding in 2024 were Ability First Sports, AAUW Chico, Bidwell Jr. High Foundation, Boys’ and Girls’ Club of North Valley, Butte College Roadrunner Hub, Butte County Local Food Network, Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Amputee Outreach, Chico High Music Boosters, City of Chico, Parks Division, Habitat for Humanity, North Valley Animal Disaster Rescue Group, Shalom Free Clinic, Vietnam Veterans of America and Youth for Change 6th Street Center. The Discovery Shoppe is located at 315 Flume Street and gladly accepts gently used donations during their open hours: Wednesday-Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
