Psychiatrist raises awareness on World Mental Health Day

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Today is World Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness of mental health issues worldwide. One in five U.S. adults faces a mental health condition, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

“One in 20 of those is severe mental illness and about 59 percent of people who have problems with mental illness got treated in 2023. That’s 40 percent of the people who are struggling with depression and anxiety that did not reach out and get treatment or maybe they reached out and failed,” Beth Carson, psychiatric nurse practitioner, said.
