Boyd family gives $3.5M to Helene relief, including $1M each to three hard-hit counties

Knoxville businessman and University of Tennessee System President Randy Boyd − along with his wife and children − are donating $3.5 million through the Boyd Foundation for four East Tennessee counties that were inundated by catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.

Carter, Cocke and Unicoi counties will each receive $1 million, and $500,000 will be given in Johnson County. Randy Boyd and his wife, Jenny Boyd , visited the mayors and leaders of each county on Oct. 5 to better understand what is most needed.

The answers varied. Some counties are prioritizing books and computers, while others need barbed wire and building materials…
