Utah Running Back Micah Bernard Named a Team Captain

Utah has had a rocky start to the football season, but one player who has never wavered has been running back Micah Bernard. The Utes star has already set a career-high with 676 rushing yards this season through six games, and he’s shown no inclination of slowing down. On Tuesday, he was rewarded by being named a team captain on offense.

Bernard has been one of the most productive running backs in the country this season. According to Pro Football Focus, his 4.51 yards after contact per attempt rank 10th among qualified Power Four runners. He also ranks seventh among that group with 36 missed tackles forced.

With freshman Isaac Wilson taking over as the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, expect a heavy emphasis on the run game for the Utes, with Bernard as the central focus. He ran for 129 yards and a touchdown against Arizona State last week, and more games like that should be expected…
