That decision forces the Jordan Love-C.J. Stroud matchup up against several other games in the same time slot, meaning that a large swath of the USA will not be able to watch the game on local television. The game will be broadcast on CBS and will get that network’s top commentating team of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo due to FOX holding the doubleheader rights for this week. In essence, though, that means that Packers-Texans is splitting eyeballs with a total of four other games on CBS — the other two at noon and two more late afternoon games (Panthers-Commanders and Raiders-Rams).
Note: FOX’s late afternoon game is also a great one: a Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. With that game getting top billing and being an explicit request from FOX to be a national broadcast, it’s not a surprise that Packers-Texans isn’t in the same time slot. What is surprising is not giving the game a prime time slot instead, especially with Jets-Steelers being the pick for Sunday Night Football and the league having a Monday night doubleheader.
In any case, the bulk of the Eastern time zone will have other games on their local CBS affiliates. The mid-Atlantic will see Panthers-Commanders in the late window, while Ohio and surrounding areas predictably have Bengals-Browns. Then there are some pockets of home markets around the country, including the Detroit and Twin Cities areas, that will have Raiders-Rams due to their teams playing in the early window on FOX instead…
