AMES, Iowa — More than a decade before debuting its iconic cardinal mascot is the last time Iowa State held a winning record like the one the Cyclones are currently defending.
In 1938, Iowa State started 7-0. More than 80 years later, the team has a chance to match that record when they take on the University of Central Florida on Saturday. It also happens to fall on the week the university’s mascot, Cy the Cardinal, turns 70.
On campus, students say the hype of their win streak can be felt amongst their peers, knowing if the team keeps it up, a championship could be in the school’s future…
