GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s been almost three weeks since Helene, and in that time, many resources, helping hands and first responders have made their way to western North Carolina from the Piedmont Triad. Two crews of first responders with the Greensboro fire department have returned from Buncombe County, where one says the devastation was heartbreaking.

Firefighter Adam Morphies was on the second rotation of task force six, a group comprised of eight men from Greensboro combined with some from Fayetteville, who spent 11 days on urban search and rescue operations.
