Scotland AME Zion Church celebrates centennial anniversary after it was nearly destroyed

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A Montgomery County church nearly destroyed by flood waters several years ago marked its 100th anniversary this week.

“We’re here to honor the past and we’re here to look toward the future,” said Montgomery County Council President Andrew Friedson during his remarks.

Renovations toScotland AME Zion Church in Potomac, Md. are nearly complete while construction crews are also finishing building a modern sanctuary right beside the historic house of worship. Monday, revered leaders gathered with congregants to celebrate a landmark moment a few thought would happen.
