There’s growing excitement on the South Coast as many people look ahead to the start of the MBTA’s Commuter Rail service next spring. Over the years since construction began, communities, officials and neighbors have watched South Coast Rail grow. After safety testing and commissioning efforts are complete in a few months, the right-of-way will carry trains to and from six new stations and between the end of each line and East Taunton station.

To mark an important milestone, MassDOT shared a photo Thursday of the East Taunton station, which is now complete. It is the most complex station in the program, according to MassDOT. Located between two tracks, it includes ramps and elevators to carry riders to and from their travel directions. Like all SCR stations, it is fully accessible and includes high-level, full-length platforms; auditory and visual announcements; and an overhead platform shelter.

The South Coast Rail passenger service is still on pace to be active in the spring of 2025 in Fall River, New Bedford, Taunton, Freetown, and Middleborough…
