Five Blue Devils Move on to the Round of 16 in Singles at ITA Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Five different Duke women’s tennis student-athletes – Ellie Coleman, Irina Balus, Shavit Kimchi, Emma Jackson and Eleana Yu — won a pair of singles matches Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals to move into the round of 16 at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill. All three of the Blue Devils’ doubles teams won their matches to move on as well.

When the round of 16 commences on Saturday, Duke will feature five of the 16 players on the courts.

Junior Katie Codd won her round of 64 match to open play Friday with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over Kady Tannenbaum of Wake Forest, but dropped her second match, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 2-6 to Amelie Smejkalova of Clemson. Blue Devil freshman Ava Krug fell, 4-6, 6-2, 3-6 to Ines Bachir Earl Bouhali of East Carolina in the opening round. Krug came back to defeat Furman’s Eleanor Schulson, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8, in the consolation bracket…
