Texas Man Scammed $200 Million Fortune Under Everyone’s Nose

A man in Houston, Texas is currently awaiting sentencing for his role in a massive medical scam that is believe to have netted at least $200 million over a 7 year period that began in 2014 until his arrest in 2021. According to KHOU 11 in Houston, sentencing will be early in the new year, and could impose penalties in the neighborhood of 150 years in prison plus restitution totally more than $160 million.

In total, Mohamad Mokbel has been found guilty on 15 different charges and in the midst of the digital age, this scheme utilized good old fashioned snail mail to target the high costs incurred by diabetic patients for their testing products and treatments.

When Mokbel was arrested, according to ABC 13, he was wearing a Fendi shirt that looked like the one on his Instagram account that often touted his presumed wealth and excess.

The scam was simply billing insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid for products not needed, wanted, or even useful because some of the claims were made on behalf of people who were already dead. Mokbel’s team worked the system for countless claims, and was able to move forward for so long in part by bribing an employee with Optum Rx who allegedly assisted in their status…
