Agritopia program brings farms to East Valley schools

Stepping into the Agritopia Farm, one would never realize that the 11 acres of fertile farmland are located smack dab in the middle of the town’s urban landscape.

Educating the town’s youth about farming practices in such “agrihoods” is CC Garrett, aka Miss Hickory, a retired public school English teacher who is the founder and head of Agritopia’s Farm Hands program.

Garrett created the program in 2020, combining her 40 years of teaching experience and her love for self-sustained agriculture. The original three-hour core program designed for children from kindergarten to fifth grade has evolved today into a multi-faceted curriculum, activity and age-based project…
