Ex-deputy gets probation for scam involving illicit tows in Temecula Valley

A former Riverside County sheriff’s deputy accused of joining two colleagues in a scam that involved the lawmen steering business to a tow company in exchange for bribes was sentenced on Friday, Oct. 18, to two years of probation.

Retired Deputy Kevin Alton Carpenter pleaded guilty in March 2023 to receiving a bribe, conspiracy and unlawful use of a government computer network.

In addition to felony probation, Superior Court Judge Jerry Yang ordered Carpenter to serve six months in a sheriff’s work-release program…
