At a packed rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Vice President Kamala Harris doubled down on her vision for the Medicare expansion she plans to implement if elected president while focusing on a group often underrepresented in policy discussions: working Americans juggling child and elder care. According to Harris, this demographic deserves targeted support.
“Under the current system, it’s hard for those in the sandwich generation—who are raising children while also caring for aging parents—to get the help they need. Unless you have extra money sitting around, you either have to leave your job or exhaust all your savings just to qualify for Medicaid, and that’s not right,” Harris said, addressing a crowd of thousands in Grand Rapids’ Kent County. “Under my plan, we will expand Medicare to cover the cost of home health care for our elderly.”
