Oct. 19, 1949, in The Star: William S. (Bill) Weatherly, owner of Anniston radio station WOOB, said today he’s “seriously considering” entering the political race to be associate commissioner, Place No. 2, in the city commissioners race next spring. He said he might seek the seat now occupied by Sam Street. Mr. Weatherly also serves on the Calhoun County Board of Education. Also this date: “It’s certainly good to be back in the good old State of Alabama,” said Johnny Mack Brown yesterday when he arrived in Anniston on his cross-country personal appearance tour.
