NFA edges Pine Bush on Steiner’s 27-yard field goal with 20 seconds left

PINE BUSH – A 27-yard field goal by Chase Steiner with 20 seconds left culminated a wild fourth quarter and gave Newburgh Free Academy a 27-26 Section 9 Class AA win over Pine Bush on Saturday.

Newburgh led 17-14 at the end of the third quarter before Pine Bush’s Ruben Simpson scored on a 4-yard run to make it 20-17 for the home team after the extra point was blocked.

Less than three minutes later, Newburgh’s Bruce Montgomery scored from four yards out to give the Goldbacks a 24-20 lead. That lead lasted 15 seconds before Pine Bush’s Jamil Sneed brought back a kick-off 98 yards. The Bushmen missed the extra point with a slim lead, up 26-24…
