Some return home to Oakland Hills after evacuation warning was lifted near the Keller fire

Some Oakland Hills residents living in a neighborhood less than half a mile from the Keller Fire chose to heed Oakland Fire’s warnings and evacuated their homes on Friday. Others stayed put.

The entire neighborhood, located in Zone 179 off Keller Avenue east of Interstate 580, was strongly encouraged by the fire department to leave on Friday afternoon as the 5-alarm Keller Fire grew amid a Red Flag Warning day.

The yellow evacuation warning, which indicated a “potential threat to life and/or property” and instructed residents who need additional time — such as pet owners — to “leave immediately” was lifted for the zone late Friday evening…
