The Goldwater Institute has lobbed a hand grenade into the ongoing early balloting on fiscal measures the Town of Gilbert and Gilbert Public Schools have on the ballot, telling local officials and the County Attorney they are violating election law by advocating for yes votes.
The conservative think tank asked the town to remove videos from its website and stop sending mailers that advocate for a “yes” vote on Proposition 497, which would increase the permanent base for Gilbert’s General Fund expenditure limit, and Proposition 498, which exempts capital projects from that limit.
The Oct. 16 letter was sent to Mayor Brigette Peterson – and copied to the County Attorney – and listed the town’s “offending video” as well as mailers advocating passage of the two town propositions to support the institute’s assertions…
