The Taxi and Limousine Commission in New York City has finalized rules requiring all new yellow taxis to be wheelchair accessible, in compliance with a federal court order stemming from a lawsuit filed by disability advocates over a decade ago. The new regulations mandate that yellow taxi medallion holders must equip their vehicles with wheelchair ramps and safety features for disabled riders to receive a new vehicle license or during a hack-up every seven years.
