Hokies’ Tuten out to prove he belongs in ‘upper echelon of national running backs’

BLACKSBURG — Bhayshul Tuten weighed several important factors last winter when deciding whether he wanted to return to Virginia Tech for his senior season or head to the NFL. Getting his degree in sociology was at the top of the list, but not far behind was becoming the type of tailback that NFL scouts and evaluators had at the top of their respective lists.

Tuten took steps forward in the Hokies’ first six games this season. He strung together consecutive 100-yard performances and found the end zone on a weekly basis. His name appeared near the top of the ACC rushing leaders.

But there was no mention of Tuten being in the same class as Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson or even North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton as the season reached its midway point…
