Packers Week 7 Winners and Losers vs. the Texans

Since the 2023 season began, we’ve seen a lot of comparison between QBs Jordan Love and CJ Stroud. Both are coming off of breakout seasons, leading their teams to the playoffs, and establishing themselves as the standard for the next generation of young quarterbacks. Fans have had today’s matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans circled on their calendars for some time now, and the teams gave us a game to remember. An ugly, ugly game.

There were 8 lead changes, including the game-winning FG by the Packers’ new kicker Brandon McManus. There was sloppy play by both teams, but it seemed like the Packers in particular left a ton of points on the field. Despite some frustrating play on offense, Green Bay came away with a 24-22 win, and have a 5-2 record in a tight NFC North. Let’s dive into this week’s winners and losers.

Winner: Josh Jacobs

The Packers RB had a really nice game today, recording 76 yards on the ground from 12 carries. The offensive line did a nice job creating gaps for him, and he was able to create some explosive plays, including his longest gain of the day, a 27-yarder. There was another 14-yard run that looked like it might be a house call, until a defender got his hand on Jacobs’ foot and brought him down.

More importantly, though: THE STREAK HAS BEEN BROKEN. As you may or may not have heard, Josh Jacobs held the record for most consecutive receptions without a TD catch. This streak officially ended at 211 catches today, as Jacobs finally got his first career receiving TD, an 8-yarder in the team’s first drive of the second half.
