Proposed prison turned nature preserve

A question asked by many college students far and near is, where can I go to clear my head after a stressful day? Some may say you could go to the library or the gym, but for UW-Whitewater there’s another often overlooked option. Located on the northeastern border of campus near Wells Residence Hall is UW-Whitewater’s very own nature preserve. The preserve is home to 100 acres of land total, 40 acres of it is fryers woods and the other 60 acres is a mix of prairie and the property behind Perkins Stadium.

“This is a beautiful place to enjoy fall and get the fall vibe on, get yourself the pumpkin spice and vibe on,” Wesley Enterline exclaimed.

Enterline is the sustainability director for UWW’s sustainability office and manages the preserve alongside facilities planning and management and grounds crew management. The preserve offers students a beautiful walking trail and many volunteering options on campus. However, the preserve is more than what meets the eye…
