Consistency the next step for talented Auburn freshmen

AUBURN, Alabama–Through seven games this season, Auburn’s true freshman class has continued to gain experience and with that increased playing time as Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons continue to be a big part of the plan on offense with a host of players taking on key roles for D.J. Durkin’s defense.

In the loss to Missouri, Auburn’s trio of Coleman, Simmons and Perry Thompson combined to play 78 snaps against the Tigers with five combined catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Coach Hugh Freeze said he has seen them continue to take steps forward in the offense. Next is to bring the consistency required to play at a high level from start to finish.

“These kids are very talented and they’re the future and foundation of our program,” Freeze said. “And you see them do it in practice and then the bullets get real and things change a little bit. And that coverage is a little bit different than I experienced against the service team in practice and I cut this route two yards short…
