Gun barrel still hot when police make arrest in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Being in the right place at the right time turned into an arrest after shots were fired in Austintown last week.

An officer on patrol about 11:50 p.m. on Oct. 13 heard four gunshots in the area of Patricia Avenue. Seconds later, the officer saw a car speeding toward his cruiser, but it slowed down as it passed.

The officer stopped the Chevrolet Malibu and questioned the driver who said that there were no firearms in the car, however, the backseat passenger, Mar’Tez Sharper, told police there was a gun in the car and it was his, according to a police report. He also told police that he “acted stupidly” and fired shots out of the rear driver’s side window on Lancaster Drive near the park, the report said.

A gun, with the barrel still warm, was found in a center compartment where Sharper was sitting. The magazine for the gun was found in the glove box, the report stated…
