2 West Virginia towns among best Halloween destinations: survey

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Salem or Sleepy Hollow might come to mind as some of the best places to spend Halloween, but according to a recent survey, a few West Virginia towns aren’t far behind.

Previously deemed the most haunted place in West Virginia , Harpers Ferry was ranked the 20th best Halloween destination in a survey conducted by Mixbook . Harpers Ferry was a major site during and leading up to the Civil War, and many believe it is haunted by the troops who were killed in historical events like John Brown’s raid and the Battle of Harpers Ferry, which saw the largest surrender of Federal troops during the whole Civil War, according to the National Park Service .

If you visit the national historic park, you can also take one of the ghost tours offered in the town .
